Monday I ate KFC for lunch! Yeah...
Anywaqy - afterward my okaasan and I went to go pick up Kate! Our okaasans set us up a play-date. Asonde kudasai to itte imasu! :P Yeah. We feel like we are 8. But anyway.
We went to a 100 yen store! I swear I have been to fifty.
And a slightly akward first picture...
These aren`t just any men`s panties. These are DISPOSABLE men`s panties.
No - we didn`t buy these.
Would you like to join us for some nice branch?
And then Kate came over my house were we read a book about Engrish. Yeah. Ask me about it sometime.
See previous post: Kate wants a mattress. She was in heaven.
On Tuesday I met up with some of the exchange students at our favorite hang out spot...
MISTER DONUTS!
These donuts are the best donuts ever. And yes - they have tofu in them.
Anyway - we took a bus out to a movie theater and starting watching Monsters vs. Aliens. In Japanese. It was hilarious but unfortunately Kate and I had to leave early because we had made plans to meet up with Satoko Sensei - an English teacher - and some of my classmates at...where else? MISTER DONUTS!
Anyway. So we met up with them - did some amazing purikura and then headed over to karaoke.

Kate between Natsumi and Sensei.
My Japanese friends! Natsumi and Ayako! (Also Kate - but she`s American. So whatever. :P)
Me with Sensei. (Note - not Ohigashi Sensei. I just call all my teachers Sensei)
And then on Wednesday, Kate and I were once again reduceded to 8 year olds and had a play-date! Her host mom picked me up and we went to...BOOK OFF! It was amazing. So much manga. Only 105 yen each. Unfortunately...all in Japanese.
But I still bought 8 manga. And a Yui CD.
And then back to her house for dinner.
Kate`s host sister Kohaku is the cutest thing ever. (Well - her and Tove would put up a good fight.)
And also - look at that delicious dinner! Yum!
After dinner we went to an onsen.
...there is a reason I have no pictures of that.
She stole my cellphone! (I use it as a watch and alarm clock here in Japan. Also as a unit converter.)
She also stole Moonbeam. She woke me up in the morning (Oh yeah - I spent the night at Kate`s!) and then kidnapped him for the rest of the day. This caption reads: Help me!
Kohaku grooming Moonbeam.
OH! And before going over Kate`s I weighed myself and have actually lost weight in Japan...but then I snacked and ate a lot over at Kate`s. So I might have reversed that.
Really bad picture of me. But this was a GIANT PILLOW CASE!
Once again - fun with bedding!
Kate is my manga hero.
All shojo.
We had a manga reading party!
Even though it was in Japanese it was shojo! So I could basically understand it. As long as you know how to read 大好きだよ! (I love you) you can read it I have decided.
Kate shipping her manga home.
I only wish I could have had the lack of self-restrain and oppurtuinty to buy this much manga.
Finally - someone worse than me! Someone who understands me!
Let me repeat: Kate is my manga hero.
This picture is a masterpience that I am more than proud of.
You need to make it big to appreciate it fully.
More karaoke with Kate`s host family!
More karaoke with Kate`s host family!
Kohaku sang all these cute kid songs!
And then...Barbaque! I ate sooo much!
I am sorry, Corey - I think all the vegetables I have eaten in Japan were reversed by the amount of meat I ate last night.

It looks like you have been having a wonderful time! I had to laugh at your "play date" comments but I am also glad that you have made such wonderful friendships while you have been in Japan. We'll be on vacation when you get home but we're looking forward to seeing you once we're back. Safe travels...

ReplyDeleteWhat are disposable panties for anyway... and why do men have them?!
ReplyDeleteAnd if I were in Japan, I think "Mister Donuts" would be my hangout too. Those donuts look so cool! ...and tasty :)
And I am guessing Japan's equilvalent to Dollar Tree is the 100 yen store? AWESOME!
Oh, and your "Cliff of Despair, Death and Cuteness" in your drawing made me laugh for some reason... I think it was more so the ninja fighting a pirate part though...a very epic duel you only see once in a lifetime.
>Cant wait till you come home!
PS: I have lost count of how many pictures there are of you doing a peace sign... basically every picture you've taken I am guessing ;)
I LOVE THE MANGA!!!!! Woah, Kate's collection is amazing! And think you can practice your Japanese by reading it! It's an educational purchase! Go for it!
ReplyDeleteYou didn't see Vanness' bio about his conversion to God in any of the bookstores did you? It's supposed to be out in Japan, and filled with lot's of Vanness picture goodness. Again, good practice for your Japanese skills! (and then you can lend it too me, and I'll just drool over the pics.) ;-)
Yum barbaque!
Where is Kate from in the US? Looks like you two have become really good friends!
Only five days? I'd better get to the store and load up on cookie ingredients.......:-))
By the way, you are SOO right. Imperial Garden is amazing. I love their Amazing Chicken. Goodbye, Shanghai River.....
SEE YOU SOON!
Thanks, Mrs. Henry! I won`t be in church the first Sunday I am back anyway - I have a CCYM retreat. Retreat and jet lag!? Oh no.
ReplyDeleteThese are all questions we ask ourselves, Layla. Sometimes I stay up late in the night asking God - why? What are disposable panties for? I just don`t get it, God. Maybe one day - our prays will be answered. But I hope not.
Oh, Layla. Tasty is an understatement. It is so...goood. I mean - those little circle break apart and the dough is just so...Woah.
It is like our equivalent of the Dollar Tree...except much more stuff! It`s awesome.
And this artist humbly thanks you for the appreciation of her work! :D
Haha - I have some of me not doing a peace sign....probably.
Haha - Yeaaahh. I did read a lot of hers. I only bought 8 myself! If I went to Book Off as often as she did though...
Nooo. I haven`t seen Vanness` book anywhere! Pity!
The bbq was amaaazing. I think I put back on whatever weight I have lost over here.
She`s from Princeton - a little far away.
Four days now!
I told you! But I may not eat rice for a long while after I return...
Donuts, with tofu? I can't imagine... too bad you can't bring any home. And yea - you remembered to get more pictures of the food. Glad that you and Kate had fun on your playdate. I agree with Karen - if you have a chance you'll have to ask about Vanness' book - that would be pretty cool. <3 U & C U soon!!
ReplyDeleteThat `<3 U & C U` hurt me mother! Please ^ next time say `Love you and see you soon!`
ReplyDeleteOh - they are light and airy and only 126 yen. With a coupon or occasionally on sale for 100 yen.
AMAZING.
I knew you would cringe :)
ReplyDeleteOuch. Harsh!
